Ketchup Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 can tomato paste (try to find the unsalted with only tomatoes listed as an ingredient)
  • 5 tbsp evaporated cane juice (or regular sugar)
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp molasses
  • 1/2 tbsp agave
  • 1 1/4 cups water
Directions
  • Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan. Simmer over low heat for about 75 minutes stirring occasionally. Let cool and then store in glass jars in the refrigerator.

  1. I just found your blog last night and have read through the whole thing. I’m now trying to figure out which recipes to try first. I’m interested in trying the ketchup, but don’t use agave because I’ve read some very negative info on its production. Do you know what I can substitute for the agave?

    • I’m glad you like the blog! You could definitely use honey instead of agave (I use that about half of the time when I make it). Or even maple syrup but it might give your ketchup a slight maple flavor. I will have to look into the problems with agave production. Thanks for the info!
